The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is a constitutional organization under the Office of the President. The ECP is responsible for conducting democratic elections in Pakistan. The three-member ECP is headed by a Chairman and consists of a General Secretary and a Member Secretary. All election candidates must belong to the National Assembly or the Federal Cabinet to join the ECP. History:

Former president Ay Virus Haque inaugurated the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on March 20, 1968, in Islamabad, Pakistan. The ECP is responsible for administering elections and issuing public decrees regarding them. Conducting free and fair elections is very important, as it ensures the freedom of citizens and protects their rights. The ECP sets guidelines for holding general and presidential elections as well as by-elections. The ECP also ensures that all political parties are registered with the ECP and abide by the rules set forth in the Election Act. Furthermore, the ECP enforces gender quotas for women in all its senior positions.

Eligibility Criteria:

The three-member Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is led by a chairman and comprises a general secretary and a member secretary. The chairman and both secretaries must be members of the National Assembly or the Federal Cabinet. After completing their mandatory service, members can apply to join the ECP upon their retirement. Each department at the ECP has its own chief officer and staff members working diligently toward their goals. Each department performs different tasks to run an efficient election system.
